Without the overwhelming threat of house price inflation pressurising people to buy, it is becoming more common for people to rent in an area for 6 months or a year before committing to a house purchase; there is no better way of being absolutely certain that a new area meets your long term needs than living there for a few months, knowing you can walk away at the end of the lease if it does not suit!
