Fife

The Kingdom of Fife offers a relaxed, refreshing and high-quality alternative for families looking for a larger property for their money. Dunfermline (once capital of Scotland) is a prime example with some fine traditional properties, yet it is only a little over 30 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh.

The historical town of St Andrews is located on the east coast of Fife. It is well known for one of the most ancient universities in Europe (founded in 1411), and as the home of golf. Golf has been played for here over six centuries, and there are now 11 golf courses within a ten minute drive of the town centre.

The area has several independent schools, and some of its state schools have excellent reputations.

The delightful and popular East Neuk fishing villages feature houses with distinctive crow-stepped gables and “dutch tiles ” a legacy of the region’s trade with Holland in years gone by. Many such properties have been bought by Edinburgh families as second “homes by the sea”.
