Wapping and Docklands

The primary attraction of Wapping is its accessibility to the City; a 20 – 30 minute walk, or a short bus ride. Wapping is very residential and does not have the transient feel of Shad Thames which is directly opposite the river. With the imposing backdrop of Tower Bridge , the properties are typically portered ‘block‘ developments surrounding the unique St Katherine’s Dock, the City‘s marina , and riverfront properties. The area is served by a large supermarket (Waitrose) and has a good range of local shops and restaurants. Wapping is considered a quiet area and provides a haven for many after the bustle of the City.

Further along the river is the Docklands area, served by the Docklands Light Railway providing direct links into Bank underground station. Alternatively the Thames Clipper is the river taxi service which runs from Greenwich to Westminster stopping at various piers en route. Canary Wharf, the geographical heart of the Docklands, is home to many financial institutions, accommodated in an array of impressive office towers, the largest of which, One Canada Square, dominates the skyline. There is a good range of residential properties in the area which is served by an excellent shopping Mall at Canary Wharf.
