South Bank
An enormously popular waterside area based around a wide, traffic free boulevard dominated by the South Bank Centre. The Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Haywood Gallery and the National and Film Theatres are near Waterloo Railway station as is the recent landmark, the London Eye. The area can be explored on foot and runs up to Bankside, a part of London first populated in Tudor times. A reconstruction of Shakespears Globe theatre and the Tate Modern museum then lead you into the area known as Borough. The thriving and famous Borough Market has existed since Medieval times and is squeezed between the High Street and Southwark Cathedral. This area is well served by London Bridge Railway Station and Bermondsey Tube which has direct links into Canary Wharf.
The numerous bars and restaurants create a lively atmosphere to which City workers flock after work. Properties are primarily warehouse conversions and the entire waterfront has been developed to create a riverfront walkway and offers a good range of properties at differing budgets. Other notable areas are the ultra trendy Bermondsey Street – with its quirky bars and restaurants and Shad Thames home to numerous warehouse conversions just one block from the riverside. This area again offers a plethora of up market riverfront restaurants.
