Royston
Royston is an old market town tracing its origins back to Roman times, when the ancient Icknield Way (now somewhat less romantically known as the A505) was supplemented by Ermine Street, generating a town built around the convergence of the two thoroughfares. Right on the border of Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire, Royston is a very attractive, characterful and friendly town of about 14,500 people. The A10 provides direct links with London and Cambridge (the town providing a viable lower-cost urban alternative to expensive Cambridge property for those working in the city). There is also a rail station providing a link to London Kings Cross in 37-54 minutes.
