Hitchin
This thriving market town by the River Hiz is ideally placed for the employment centres of Stevenage and Luton and has an appealing town centre built around the old Market Square and St Mary’s Church. Entertainment locally may be found at the Queen Mother Theatre www.queenmothertheatre.org.uk. The Icknield Way Path www.icknieldwaypath.co.uk passes Hitchin to the north and, as it is some 105 miles in length, even the most determined walker should be satisfied. Independent schools in the area are at Letchworth Garden City St Christopher School which is co-educational and St Francis’ College which is for girls together with The Princess Helena College at Preston for girls. Kingshott independent co-educational preparatory school is on the south side of the town at St Ippolyts.
