Whalley
On the banks of the River Calder in the Ribble Valley, the village of Whalley is built around a ruined Cistercian Abbey. Whilst small, the village offers a wide range of independent shops and up-market boutiques. It has good local services with a doctor, dentist, pharmacy, library and a village hall which often has shows and live music.
There is a local village primary school and the Roman Catholic boarding and day school at Stonyhurst is nearby.
Local rail services connect with the main network for travel to Preston, Manchester and across the Pennines and there are good local bus services.
