Kendal
Historic Kendal, situated on the River Kent, is the gateway to the Lake District National Park. Lying just outside the park boundary, house prices can be a little cheaper than those in the park itself but Kendal’s facilities, situation, schools and cultural offering still make it a popular place to live. Alongside a mix of high street shops, independent retailers and a factory outlet village, there is also a Museum, ruined Norman castle, theatre complex, art gallery and sports centre. Kendal College is linked to both the University of Central Lancashire and University of Cumbria and also offers adult education courses.
