Hereford

The ancient cathedral city of Hereford situated on the River Wye, contains a wide range of cultural activities including music, choral and other festivals. The cathedral is home to the world-famous Mappa Mundi which dates from 1290 – an outstanding treasure of the medieval age which reveals how 13th century scholars interpreted the world in spiritual and geographical terms. Hereford is of course also home to the cider making industry, drawing apples from the surrounding orchards, and there is a brewing industry – supplied by local hop farms. Nearby is a well-known racecourse, staging National Hunt racing.
