Spotlight On – Guildford
Guildford is a very popular commuter area, mainly because of the fact that the train journey to London Waterloo is only 35 minutes. However, as a bustling market town surrounded by the beautiful Surrey Hills, Guildford also has a huge amount to offer both professional couples and families who choose to work and live locally.
Guildford has a Cathedral, a University, theatre and cinema complex along with a wide range of shops, restaurants and leisure facilities. The cobbled High Street plays home to art galleries, numerous shops and department stores. Markets are held on Fridays and Saturdays. There are river walks, pretty boats on the canal, tree-lined parks where you can relax in the shade and quaint side streets with cafe seating spilling out onto the pavements.
Guildford still remains one of the most expensive places to live in the UK outside of London. Katy Worthy, Director of the County Homesearch Company says: “The rental market is buoyant and currently suffers from a lack of stock. A steady stream of possible tenants means that demand here is consistently high. The villages surrounding Guildford (including Shalford, Chilworth and Bramley) also offer a great deal for families wanting the slightly quieter life. A fine selection of state, Grammar and private schools continue to make this area highly desirable for families. Competition for property near the best schools can sometimes be intense.”
